The Disney Book Tag

As a toddler during the Disney Renaissance of the ‘90s, loving Disney was pretty much inevitable for me, and I’m not mad about it. These days, my friends and I have gotten really into playing the Disney board game “Villainous,” and having a Disney + subscription has made it very easy to watch Mulan whenever my badass princess-loving heart desires.

This Disney Book Tag originated on YouTube — thanks Katytastic! — and I stumbled upon it on The Book Nut. Yes, I WILL spend some time pairing my favorite Disney movies with books I love! I’d love to know how you’d answer these questions :)

A “fish out of water” — a book with characters out of their element

Young guerrilla fighters + international elites + hostage situation = a very extreme version of fish out of water

A character that goes through a major transformation

Every time I read The Color Purple, Celie’s journey through life brings me to tears. It’s not a Cinderella transformation; it’s something better.

A book with an eclectic cast of characters

Catton’s colorful cast of characters correspond to the 12 zodiac symbols and other celestial bodies — they make all 848 pages worth reading!

A book that put me to sleep

I know it’s a classic. I really tried. But I fell asleep… twice.

A character who had something traumatic happen to them in childhood

Raised in challenging and unconventional circumstances, Kya, the main character of Where the Crawdads Sing, is resilience personified.

A beast of a book (a big book) that you were intimidated by, but found the story to be beautiful

Long Walk to Freedom is my favorite non-fiction book, hands down. All 1000+ pages of it.

A character who gets their wish granted, for better or worse

Rin trains in secret to attend the prestigious Sinegard Academy and ultimately attends. What unfolds after is a mixed bag.

A character who pretends to be someone or something they are not

I can’t explain the connection between Mulan and The Song of Achilles without giving it all away — trust me, just read it!

A book with characters you wish would come to life

Any other answer I’d give would be a betrayal to my 12-year-old self… I’d hang out with Hermione any day :)
